Watch episode 2 of the Earth Touch “Behind the Scenes” series that I edited. Boris von Schoenebeck shows us the technical side (and unglamorous side) of filming with the Phantom Gold high-speed (slo-mo) camera on Malgas Island off the coast of South Africa.
Boris explains how frame-rates and preroll work, then takes us on the journey to the gannet-covered island of Malgas which has one of the largest breeding colonies. Capturing these birds launching, and in flight reveals the true beauty of these seemingly awkward hunters of the oceans.
Although seemingly clumsy in front of the camera, Boris is the ultimate machine behind – as the end of the film shows on an epic scale.
